The founders of BTF, Dr. Graham Vesey (a microbiologist) and Mark Gauci (a laser technologist) identified the need for precise reference samples for microbiological testing in 1998 when Sydney’s water supply became contaminated with harmful pathogens.
After forming BTF in March 1999, the team developed technologies for producing precise reference samples for life sciences, and progressively released products targeted at the water, food and pharmaceutical industries worldwide.
To support the commercial development of BTF, in 2003 the company raised capital from Sydney-based venture fund Kestral Capital (formerly Nanyang Ventures). This allowed BTF to prove its commercial viability and secure business with world class customers in around 20 countries, including Japan, Europe the USA.
In 2007 the commercial potential in BTF and the progress made was identified by bioMérieux as an opportunity to develop the market for precise reference samples through their global commercial network. bioMérieux took this opportunity by acquiring BTF in September 2007.
Today, BTF continues to develop products and markets for precise references samples for the life sciences and is a bioMérieux company. For more information on bioMérieux please visit - www.biomerieux-industry.com
